Drain & Sewer Services

Complete drain cleaning and sewer line services — from slow kitchen drains to full sewer line repair and replacement.

From Slow Drains to Sewer Line Failures

Drain and sewer problems cover a wide spectrum — from a kitchen sink that’s draining slowly to a completely blocked main sewer line causing backups throughout your home. David Mechanical provides the full range of drain and sewer services, from routine drain cleaning through camera inspection, hydro jetting, and complete sewer line repair or replacement. We diagnose accurately and solve the actual problem, not just the symptom.

Drain Cleaning

Most drain clogs have a predictable cause: hair and soap buildup in bathroom drains, grease and food debris in kitchen drains, and mineral scale throughout older pipe systems. We clear drains using cable machines for targeted clogs and high-pressure hydro jetting for more thorough pipe cleaning. Hydro jetting scours the full interior of the pipe at up to 4,000 PSI, removing buildup that a cable machine leaves behind — delivering significantly longer time between recurrences.

Sewer Camera Inspection

Before recommending any sewer repair, we run a high-definition waterproof camera through your sewer line to see exactly what’s happening inside. We identify root intrusion, cracks, offset joints, collapsed sections, and bellies with precision — and mark the exact location and depth of each problem. This eliminates guesswork and ensures you only pay for repairs that are actually needed. We also provide camera inspections as a standalone service for pre-purchase home inspections and routine sewer health checks.

Root Intrusion Removal

Tree roots are among the most destructive forces a sewer line faces. Even small cracks in aging clay or concrete pipes allow root tips to enter, and they grow until the line is blocked or broken. We remove roots using hydro jetting with specialized cutting heads that scour roots from the pipe walls. For lines with recurring root problems, we recommend trenchless pipe lining to seal the interior and eliminate future entry points.

Trenchless Sewer Repair

When sewer lines need rehabilitation, trenchless methods allow us to repair or replace the pipe without excavating your entire yard. Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining creates a new seamless pipe inside the existing one, effectively renewing the line from the inside. Pipe bursting replaces the old pipe entirely by pulling a new HDPE pipe through it. Both methods require only minimal access points, preserving your landscaping, driveway, and sidewalks. Trenchless repairs are rated to last 50 years or more.

Full Sewer Line Replacement

Some situations call for complete sewer line replacement — severely collapsed pipe, major bellies that can’t be lined, or a line that needs to be rerouted. We have the equipment and experience to handle full residential sewer excavation, including JULIE utility locates, permit coordination, and site restoration. We explain all your options before any work begins so you can make an informed decision.

Preventive Drain Maintenance

The most cost-effective approach to drain and sewer problems is preventing them. We offer scheduled drain cleaning programs for residential and commercial clients — annual or semi-annual main line cleaning that removes buildup before it becomes a blockage. Clients on maintenance programs experience fewer emergency calls and avoid the much higher cost of reactive repairs and water damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a clogged drain and a sewer line problem?
A single slow or clogged drain — one sink, one tub — is typically a localized blockage in that branch line. When multiple drains are slow or backing up simultaneously, water from one fixture backs up into another (running the dishwasher floods the floor drain), or you hear gurgling from the toilet when you run the sink, the problem is in your main sewer line. Camera inspection confirms the diagnosis.
How do you clear a clogged sewer line?
We start with a sewer camera inspection to identify what's causing the blockage and where it is. Depending on the cause — grease buildup, root intrusion, a soft clog, or a structural problem — we use the appropriate method: mechanical cable clearing for soft obstructions, hydro jetting for grease and scale, or targeted repair for damaged pipe.
How often should I have my main sewer line cleaned?
For most homes, we recommend main line cleaning every 18 to 24 months as preventive maintenance. Homes with mature trees near the sewer line, older clay or cast iron pipes, or a history of clogs benefit from annual cleaning. Commercial kitchens and restaurants need quarterly service.
Can tree roots really damage my sewer line?
Yes — and it's one of the most common sewer problems in established neighborhoods. Tree and shrub roots seek out the moisture and nutrients in sewer lines, entering through small cracks or joints and growing until they block or break the pipe. We remove roots with hydro jetting and cutting heads, and we can line the pipe to prevent re-entry.
When does a sewer line need to be replaced vs. repaired?
Spot repairs work for isolated cracks or joint failures. Trenchless lining rehabilitates the entire length of a pipe that has widespread but minor deterioration. Full replacement is necessary when the pipe has collapsed, has major bellies (low spots where waste accumulates), or is made of materials that can no longer be reliably repaired. Camera inspection determines which applies to your line.
Do you handle both residential and commercial drain work?
Yes. We clean and repair drains for everything from single-family homes to restaurants, office buildings, and light industrial facilities. Commercial properties often need more frequent service and after-hours scheduling, which we accommodate.
