Excavation & Major Line Work

Full excavation services for water lines, sewer mains, and underground plumbing.

When the Big Jobs Need Doing

Some plumbing problems require getting underground — whether it’s a collapsed sewer main, a deteriorated water service line, or foundation drainage that needs replacement. David Mechanical has the equipment, experience, and licensing to handle major excavation projects for residential and commercial properties.

Water Main Replacement

If your water service line from the street to your home is leaking, corroded, or made of outdated materials like lead or polybutylene, replacement is necessary. We excavate the old line, install a new copper or HDPE water service, and coordinate the connection with your municipal water department.

Sewer Line Excavation

While we prefer trenchless methods when possible, some situations require traditional excavation — severely collapsed pipes, major bellies, or lines that need rerouting. We have the equipment to handle residential sewer excavation at any depth, and we work efficiently to minimize the time your yard is open.

Proper Permitting and Safety

All excavation work requires proper permits and utility locates. We handle the entire process — coordinating JULIE utility marking, pulling municipal permits, scheduling inspections, and ensuring every aspect of the project meets code. Safety is never compromised on a David Mechanical excavation project.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is excavation necessary instead of trenchless repair?
Excavation is necessary when pipes are severely collapsed or crushed, when there are major bellies that can't be lined, when the sewer line path needs to be rerouted, or for water main replacements that require a new connection to the municipal main.
How long does an excavation project take?
Most residential excavation projects take 2 to 5 days depending on depth, length, and site conditions. We coordinate utility locates, pull permits, and restore the site as close to original condition as possible.
Will you restore my yard after excavation?
Yes. We backfill with appropriate material, compact it properly, and restore grading. We typically leave the site ready for topsoil and seed or sod. We communicate the restoration plan before we start.
Do you coordinate with JULIE for utility locates?
Absolutely. We contact JULIE (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) before any excavation to have all underground utilities marked. This is required by Illinois law and is essential for safety.
